Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a generalized skeletal disease characterized by a decrease in bone mineral density and changes in bone tissue quality, leading to an increased risk of fractures.
It is a silent disease, causing no symptoms until fractures occur, which is already too late. The decrease in bone mass is closely linked to increasing age and, in women, to a set of hormonal changes related to menopause, but there are other risk factors.
It is estimated that in the coming years, the prevalence of this disease will increase significantly due to the aging population.
The goal of treatment is to prevent fractures and involves non-pharmacological strategies (such as physical exercise and supplementation with calcium and vitamin D) and pharmacological therapies.
